Battery Charger Instructions

operation of charger

The CareTaker Charger is designed to properly charge your special Kangaroo Deep-Cycle Battery for everyday use and for Continuous Storage.

It is simple to operate —here is all you do :
1) For sealed batteries, proceed to Step 2. For wet, lead-acid batteries, check that battery fluid level is at or above MINIMUM fill level.

NOTE: For wet lead-acid batteries, check the battery's fluid level every two weeks to make sure it does not drop below minimum fill level.
2) Make sure the charger switch is OFF.
3) To connect the charger to your battery attach the RED clip to the battery's POSITIVE (+RED) terminal and the BLACK clip to the NEGATIVE (-BLACK) terminal.
4) Plug the power cord into a standard grounded 120 volt domestic USA or 220/240 volt Export/Foreign household outlet, and turn the charger switch ON.
5) A RED light (located to the left of the front panel) will come ON, indicating the CareTaker is functioning in the RECHARGING MODE.

If the RED light doesn't come ON, check the charger clip's connection to the battery terminals for RED to RED (+)POSITIVE and BLACK TO BLACK (-)NEGATIVE. IF polarity is reversed, switch the clips to proper polarity and the RED light will come ON.
6) A GREEN light (located above the RED LIGHT) will come ON when the battery is fully charged and ready to GO 18 holes. When the GREEN light is ON, the charger will monitor and keep the battery in a Continuous Storage Mode keeping the battery fully charged.
(The red light will remain ON also, so long as your charger is connected to the battery.)

Should the green light be ON and the switch is turned OFF accidentally or AC power is interrupted momentarily, the green light will go OFF and not come back ON immediately when the power is restored. The charger goes through an ELECTRONIC DIAGNOSTIC TEST of the battery before the green light comes BACK ON; this takes approximately 1½ Hours.
7) CAUTION: When disconnecting, always turn the charger switch OFF before removing the charger clips from the battery terminals. Your CareTaker Charger can give you two different signals telling you your battery needs replacement:
  • I. If you never get the green light, even after 24 hours of charging, you know that your battery has a "dead cell". The battery can no longer achieve a full charge and therefore will require replacement, if it doesn't power your motorcaddie for 18 holes.
  • II. If you no longer get 18 holes of sufficient power, but the green light continues to come on after the charging cycle, your battery has "sulfated" with age and use. Your battery is being recharged to full voltage, but it no longer has sufficient capacity to power your motorcaddie for a round of golf.

NOTE: The charger instructions are included with the charger and should be read thoroughly and kept for reference if questions arise. (If you do not have the instruction sheet PRINT this sheet and keep near the charger for future reference.)

The above simplified instructions are for your convenience only and are not intended to be the sole instructions. Please refer to your battery instructions along with this page.
